MENUHIN CONCERTS
I A large number of preliminary applications have been received for the three gala concerts to be given by Yehudi Menuhin in Auckland. The box piafts for reserved seats will open to-morrow morning at 9 o'clock. Full details are announced to-day. Menuhin's opening performance promises to be a memorable event. So great was the success of Menuhin in Australia, that ten concerts were given in Sydney and a similar number in Melbourne, and 011 each occasion the houses were sold out long before the time for commencement of each concert. Altogether 75,000 heard this brilliant genius of the violin. It is interesting to note that for Yehudi Menuhin's eleventh London recital to be given in the Albert Hall, seating 10,000 people, on December 1, the house is already completely sold out, constituting a record. An interesting sidelight of his genius is the fact that lie has already mastered the difficult art of programme making; since he was 12 years of age ho has selected and arranged his own concert programmes with a skill and balance which have won the highest acclaim of critics. The first Auckland concert will be given in the Town Hall on Tuesday, July 2, and others on the following Thursday and Saturday.
