CAR MYSTERY

ME. HOLMES' DEATH NEWSPAPERS'. REFERENCES CONTEMPT OF COURT CHARGE By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright (Received Jane 21, 7.15 p.m.) SYDNEY. Jane 21 Apologies for the publication recently in the Daily Telegraph and the Sun of certain matter bearing on the death of Mr. Reginald Holmes, for which these newspapers were cited for alleged contempt of Court, were made to-day on behalf of the newspapers before Mr. Justice Halse Rogers.

In addressing the Court Mr. Clive Evatt contended inter alia that there had been an attempt to connect in some fashion the death of Mr. Holmes with the alleged disappearance of James Smith. His Honor reserved his decision as to the penalty. He referred to the offence of pre-judging the question by referring to the death of Smith by assuming he was dead (which was a matter of controversy) and by stating that his death had been due to murder.
