HOCKEY
COUNTRY WEEK TOURNAMENT Fourteen ladies' teams will take part in the annual Country Week hockey tournament which will 'commence at the Remuera grounds on Monday. The principal trophy is the Auckland Provincial Cup, while the runners-up receive the Twinnme Cup. A new trophy, the Country Cup. will be awarded to the country team which is the runner-up in each section. Games will be played each afternoon and possibly several in the morning to enable the full programme to be completed, and the final matches are to be played next Saturday afternoon. A "picture evening" has been arranged for lady players on Monday night, while an official welcome will be held at Milne and Choyce's Reception Hall on Tuesday morning. A ball, organised by the Auckland Hockey Association, will be held at the Peter Pan Cabaret on Thursday night. Canterbury won both the Seddon Stick in the men's section and the challenge stick in the ladies' section. In the men's final, Canterbury A, 2, beat Otago, 0. Others played friendly games. Victoria, 5, beat Canterbury B, 0; Auckland, 4, beat Massey, 2. In the ladies' section Otago, 4. beat Victoria, 1; Canterbury, S. beat Auckland, 0; Canterbury, 2, beat. Victoria, 1; Otago, 7, beat Auckland. 0.
