COURT OF CONVOCATION
NEW MEMBERS WELCOMED FUNCTION AT UNIVERSITY A meeting of the District Court of Convocation, to welcome the graduates of the year, was held Inst evening in the Auckland University College women's common room. The president, Mr. Noel Gibson, presided and, with Mrs. Gibson, received the guests. On behalf of the court, Mr. Gibson said he had great pleasure in welcoming to its membership those men and women who had recently graduated in the college. In doing so he felt the court had a right not only to wish the new members good luck and success but also to remind them that the community had a claim upon them. "If our university has been what I believe it should be, it will bring with it a sense of responsibility and a sense of duty to the community which must, issue in either major or minor public service," Mr. Gibson said. He also reminded the graduates that the university had a claim upon them and urged them to fulfill it. A brief musical programme was presented by Miss Kay Christie, who sang, and Miss Daphne Higham. who gave violin solos. Mr. Owen Jensen was the accompanist.
