HOME SERVICE
A report of the work done during the month of May was presented at a meeting of the Auckland branch of the Home Service Association, WSId this week. It was stated that a number of positions requiring tact and competence had been filled satisfactorily by women capable of acting as housekeepers and nurse-companions- Several urgent cases resulting from sudden illness had been met on the same day as the call had been made. Valuable assistance had been rendered two mothers of families who had been unable to take a holiday by arranging for responsible substitutes. Generally speaking. the supply of experienced domestic workers was not equal to the demand. The annual report of the Christchurch branch was read with interest. It was decided to continue to follow the lines of its work-in introducing workers in country districts to local women's institutes and other social centres, thus providing them with opportunities for recreation and companionship. It was also felt that tho lot of lonely girls in the towns could be helped by encouraging the formation of clubs and evening clauses.
