OBITUARY
M-R. ISAAC LOMAS The death occurred this week of Mr. Isaac Loinas, a well-known resident of Onehuuga. He was born at Abbeytown, Cumberland, in 18(30, and arrived at Auckland in 1885. He subsequently went to Christchurch, where he was married five years later. For many years Mr. Lomas and his wife were capin the Salvation Army. About" 33 years ago Mr. Lomas opened a tailoring and mercery business in Onehunga, which he conducted until recently. When he retired, Mr. Lomas was one of the best rifle shots in the district and a prominent member of the Akarana, Metropolitan and Auckland Gun Clubs. For many years he was a member of the Onehunga Rowling Club. For six years he was a member of tho Onehunga Rorough Council and in 1925 was defeated by only a few votes in the contest for the Mayoralty. His wife died in 1928. Ho is survived by two daughters, Miss E. M. Lomas, of Wellington, and Mrs. It. C. Lord, of Onehunga.
MR. W. J. HOLMES Ono of tho oldest sportsmen in the Auckland Province, Mr. William John Holmes, diqd suddenly at Taumarunui recently, aged 79 years. Born in Devonshire, Mr. Holmes came to New Zealand as a lad, and subsequently jived in a number of different parts of the North and South Islands. For nearly tho whole of his life ho was devoted to rod and gun, and enjoyed a day's shooting right up to tho time of his death. The home of each of his eight children contains the head of a fins stag shot by him. Mr. Holmes leaves a family of six sons and two daughters. Tho sons aro Mr. W. J. Holmes, of Pukekolie East: Mr. J. J. Holmes, of Tauranga; and Mr. It. Holmes, Mr. H. J. Holmes and Mr. L. H. Holmes, of Matamata. The daughters are Mrs. V. J. Smith, of Milford, and Mrs E. Hiekton, of Taumarunui. Mrs. Holmes died six years ago.
MR. J. W. TAYLOR The death has occurred of Mr. J. W. Taylor, aged 66, a well-known resident of Swanson, where he had lived for the past 45 years. A son of the late Mr. Samuel Taylor, he was born in Auckland. When a young man Mr. Taylor removed to Swanson, and took an active interest in the affairs of the district, being one of the original members of the local school committee. He was also one of the original members of tho Swanson cricket club, and played regularly until the disbamlment of the club a few years ago. For the past 15 years Mr. Taylor was employed by the waterworks department of the Auckland. City Council. Ho is survived by his wife and three sons and five daughters. The sons are Mr. J. Taylor, of Avondale, Mr. W. Taylor, of New Lynn, and Mr. A. Taylor, of Henderson. The daughters are Mistf C. Taylor and Miss E. TaVlor, of Swanson, Mr 3. C. Foley, of Titirangi, Mrs. F. Ross, of Henderson, and Mrs. McGregor, of Auckland.
MRS. W.. K. LAWTON [from our own correspondent] WAIUKU, Friday The death occurred yesterday of Mrs. Mary Lawton, wife of Mr. W. K. Lawton, of Pukeoware, Waiuku, a wellknown Ayrshire cattle judge. Mrs. Lawton had been a resident of New Zealand for 59 years. She was born in Ireland and at the ago of 15 years came to New Zealand and resided in Dunedin. It was there she met Mr. Lawton. Their marriage took place at Wellington 42 years ago. For a period Mr. and Mrs. Lawton lived at Wanganui. Then they came to Auckland, where Mr. Lawton was in business as a dairyman. He owned 12 acres of land and a residence at Epsom. In 1904 they made their homo at Pukeoware, where Mr. Lawton acquired ft farm, which lie has since considerably developed and subdivided. Mrs Lawton is survived by her husband, two sons, Messrs. D. and W. Lawton', of Pukeoware, and one daughter, Mrs. R. Lindsay, of Woodhill, llelcnsvillo. There are five grandchildren.
