WOMAN'S FALSE PRETENCES ' r- ■ ° Accused is a well-known ' false pretences woman,' " said Senior-Detec-tive Hall in the Police Court yesterday, when a domestic, Doris Ede, aged ol (Mr. Noble), pleaded guilty to obtaining from James Jenks £1 and from Elaine Hopkins 2s 6d by false prot6llC6S. "We have had many complaints about accused and her ' hard-luck' stories," said Senior-Detective Hall. After perusing accused's list of former convictions, the magistrate, Mr. W. P. McKean, sentenced her to one month's imprisonment.^ On a charge of stealing a gold watch and chain, valued at £ls 10s, the property of Norman Mclhnes, on June 19, a labourer, James Toko, aged 23, was remanded for a week. For trespassing on the Ellerslie race-, course on June 6, being a person convicted of keeping a common gaming house, Victor Shaw, appearing on summons, was fined £2, with 10s costs.
