RELIEF RATES
SUSTENANCE PAYMENT ALL-ROUND INCREASES SCALE FOR AUCKLAND AREA MAXIMUM 47/- AND 44/Xhe new relief o.n<l sustcnnncG rotes to operate from July 1 as announced by the Minister of Employment, the lion. S. G. Smith, on Thursday, amount to an increase of 2;; per week to single men 011 No. 5 scheme relief work or 011 sustenance without work, and an increase of 3s per week to married men whether on No. 5 relief or sustenance. The scale of pay which has been in operation in the Auckland metropolitan area since January 28 of this year provides a rate of 15s per week for single men on No. 5 scheme work and amounts raging from 24s to 44s for married men, according to their classification, which is based on the number of dependent children. Single sustenance men have been receiving 12s per week, while the payment to married men on sustenance has been from 21s to 41s. Throughout the scale relief men have been receiving 3s per week more than the sustenance men in each of the classifications and this margin is being preserved in the new scale.
The following new rates will come into force in the Auckland metropolitan area from the beginning of next month: — Relief Sustenance Single men .. •- 17/- 14/Married (no children) .. 27/- 24/Mnrried (1 child) .. 31/- 28/Married (2 children) .. 35/- 3./Married (3 children) . . 39/- 3G/Married (4 children) .. 41/- 38/Married (5 children) .. 43/- 40/Married (0 children) . - 45/- 42/Married (7 or more children) .. . • 47/- 44/-
