AGRICULTURAL BODIES
CRITICISM OF AUCKLAND STATEMENT IN REPLY A reply to criticism made at the North Island conference of agricultural and pastoral associations at Palmerston North on Thursday in regard to the decision of the Auckland Provincial Council, comprising 38 agricultural and pastoral associations, to sever its connection with the conference was made by Mr. J P. Kalaugher at yesterday's meeting of the Auckland Association. Mr. Kalaugher reported that at the conference the president, Mr. Howard Booth, had strongly criticised the Auckland president and managing-secretary, Mr. S. Austin Carr, and Air. W. F. O'Donnell respectively, accusing them of discourtesy. Mr. Kalaugher said he pointed out to the conference that the Auckland provincial council's action was dictated by the uselessness of having two organisations doing practically the same work —the conference and the northern district council of the Royal Agricultural Society. The conference finally decided that the executive of the conference should confer with the executive "of the Royal Agricultural Society to see what could be done.
Mr. O'Donnell said at yesterday's meeting that the conference had always been treated with courtesy and tho association had conveyed its good wishes to the conference. "We conlu not carry on the farce of having two organisations doing the same work," added Mr. O'Donnell.
