DAIRY REGULATIONS

MANAGERS' POSITIONS ALLEGATIONS AT MEETING [BY TELEGRAPH PRESS ASSOCIATION] PALMERSTON NORTH, Thursday It was stated by Mr. J. Whakatane, at the annual meeting of the New Zealand Dairy Factory Managers' Association to-day that already three men had lost their positions as managers because they adhered conscientiously to the dairy regulations. Mr. Murray added that managers who earnestly endeavoured to comply with the regulations often earned the disapproval of factory directors. In his presidential address, Mr. P. K. H. Petersen, of Cambridge, said that in no other manufacturing concern had the producer so much to say as in the dairy industry. Even in the other branches of the industry controlled by the farmers they were quito content to accept tho judgment of their technical experts. "It is up to us," ho said, "as managers of dairy factories, to improve our knowledge of the industry to such an extent that dairy farmers will also look upon us as experts in the dairy industry." Mr. W. M. Singleton, Director of tho Dairy Division, said the division had been responsible for tho regulation restricting for a brief period the transfer of a supply from one factory to another. This regulation had afforded managers some protection, although he agreed that had all the loopholes been eliminated tho position would have been more satisfactory. It was tho aim - of the Dairy Division to see that tho grading was in accordance with the regulations, irrespective of the attitude adopted by factory directors, who had not tho privilege of setting the standard. There was no provision to. deal with any company countenancing or influencing tho contravention of regulations.
