FOOTBALLER'S DEATH
INJURIES IN A MATCH SUDDEN COLLAPSE FOLLOWS SECOND WELLINGTON VICTIM [nr TETiEGRArrr —pitrss association} WELLINGTON, Suntluy A Rugby player, Charles Connor Estall, aged 23, died in tho Lowisham Hospital on Saturday night as tho result of an injury received while playing for the Pot one first division junior team against Wellington Club at Pot.one oh Saturday afternoon.
During the match, which is said to havo boon hard but clean, Estall was tackled low by a Wellington player and was struck on tho side of tho head by his opponent's knee. First aid was rendered and it was thought tho accident was not serious. Estall watched tho game for a short time from tho sideline, but later develojxnl moro serious symptoms and was taken to tho hospital. This is the second young player who has died from injuries received 011 tho Rugby field at Wellington this season.
SEVERAL PLAYERS INJURED THREE HOSPITAL PATIENTS Three footballers were admitted to tho Auckland Hospital on Saturday as a result of accidents in games. Brian Dignan Connolly, aged 21, single, farm hand, of 22 Selbourno Street, Grey Lynn, suffered concussion when playing League for Marist seniors at Carlaw Park. Harry Archibald Reeves, aged 22, single, a school teacher, of 0 Vine Street, Ponsonbv, also received concussion when playing Rugby for a University team at Western Springs Stadium.
Alfred John Firth, aged 28, single, a labourer, of Kauri Street, New Lynn, had his breastbone broken, in a Leaguo match at Glen Eden.
The three injured men were taken to the hospital in St. John ambulances. Their condition last night was not serious.
Several other footballers were injured and taken to the hospital in ambulances, but they were able to proceed to their homes after receiving attention.
