MUNICIPAL ELECTIONS
REQUEST FOR INQUIRY ALLEGATIONS BY LABOUR [BY TELEftKAPH —PHESS ASSOCIATION] '* WELLINGTON, Saturday The Wellington Labour Representation Committee, after having obtained legal advice, has decided to ask for a magisterial inquiry into the conduct of the election for Mayor and City Council, on the grounds that the election was not held in conformity with certain provisions of the law. A particular allegation is that the returning officer failed to provide at several polling places a sufficient number of ballot papers, with the result that a large number of electors were unable to record their votes. It is also alleged that many votes cast on behalf of companies and other corporate bodies 'were invalid, though they were allowed by the returning officer.
