Mrs. J. S.. Watson and Miss Watson, of London, are at the Hotel Cargen. Mrs. H. Hooper, Waipukurau, and Mrs. J. Watchman, Wellington, are at the Central Hotel. Mrs. Keith Anderson, of Helensville, is visiting her mother, Mrs. Edward Russell, Princes Street. Mrs. M. M. Louisson, Remuera, will leave to-morrow by the Aorangi for Vancouver en route to Japan. Mrs. A. I. Johns, Bassett Road, Remuera, and Miss Mary Milsom have returned from a visit to Rotorua. Mrs. James Catherwood and Mrs. Russell Corfiery, Christchurch, have returned after spending a few weeks in Auckland. At the Station Hotel are Mrs. G. Saunders, New Plymouth, Mrs. E. C. Cooper, Kerekere, and Mrs. T. Wardrop, Christchurch. Miss E. B. Lea was elected president of the New Zealand Women Teachers' Association at the annual conference held in Wellington last week. Mrs. W. Clark, Mrs. Barker, the Misses Barker and Miss Tucker, Gisborne, Mrs, R. S. Hayhow, Johnnesburg, and Mrs. Jackson, South Africa, are at the Grand Hotel. Miss Cecily Russell, of Princes Street, will leave by the Aorangi to-morrow on a visit to Japan. She will later go to India, where she will be the guest of Mrs. C. R. T. Congreve, Nilgiri Hills, South India. Miss A. M. Strong, of the Waimate High School staff, has been appointed to the staff of the Hamilton High School in succession to Miss E. C. G. W. Wilson, who has left to take up a position at the Balclutha High School. The resignation of Miss M. Houston, who has been for many j'ears assistant matron at the Christchurch Public Hospital, was accepted at the meeting of the North Canterbury Hospital Board last week. Miss Houston has asked to be relieved from duty on September 30. A very enjoyable evening was spent in the Whangapara Hall-when the residents of the district gave a farewell dance to the local teacher, Mr. R. Dibble, and his family. Mr. Dibble, who is leaving the Great Barrier to take up the position of headmaster of the Mangonui School, was presented with a leather suit case. Mrs._ Dibble was the recipient of a travelling rug.

The, Arapuni branch of the League of Mothers held a special meeting last week to welcome Mrs. S. O. English, provincial president, also Mrs. Horsley and Mrs. Barnett. Mrs. English spoke on the league movement, its formation, aims and objects. Musical items were rendered by Mrs. Ackland and a recitation by Mrs. Garlick. Mrs. Horsley and Mrs. Barnett also addressed the meeting on behalf of the Ponsonby and Tokanui branches. Afternoon tea served by the hostesses brought the meeting to a close. The Mangapai Hockey Club held a successful dance which notwithstanding a wet night was very enjoyable. The stage was brightened by bowls of chrysanthemums. Included among those present were: —Mrs. A. The Ponsonby Croquet Club held its annual general meeting in the club's pavilion recently. The president. Mrs. Aitcheson, presided, and later presented the trophies won during the past season. Officers elected were: —President, Mrs. Aitcheson; vice-presidents, Mesdames Snedden and Foster; secretary and treasurer, Mrs. Healey; committee, Mesdames Gallaher, Johnson, Bell, G. Tanner, Colthurst and Miss Turkington; match committee, Mesdames Johnson, Healey and Bell; tea convener, Miss Turkington; delegates to Auckland Association, Mesdames Hilton and Healey.
