PROFESSIONAL BOXING

WELTER-WEIGHT CONTEST STIRLING DEFEATS GRIFFIN [BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION] DUNEDIN, Sunday In a professional 15-rounds boxing contest for the New Zealand welterweight championship, staged at the Town Hall last night, the holder, Don Stirling, of Oamaru, lOst 31b., easily defeated Jim Griffin, of Waipukurau, 9st 6ilb., by a technical knock-out in the loth round. The bout was onesided and uninteresting, the loser being no match for Stirling, but he fought gamely. A preliminary 10-rounds feather-weight professional contest, between C. Buckley, Dunedin, 9st. 21b., and Billy Aiken, of Wellington, Bst. 131b., was fast and willing, and compensated for the big bout. Aiken, a fast and clever boxer, scored a comparatively easy victory on points, and he got a great ovation from the crowd.
