COMPLIMENTS PAID
GOVERNMENT HOUSE CALLS NAVY. ARMY AND AIR FORCE Official calls by naval, military and air force officers were paid to the Governor-General, Viscount Gal way, on Saturday murning, to mark His Excellency's first residence at Government House during his period of office. The naval party consisted of Commodore the Hon. E. R. Drummond, and the captains of the other battleships of the New Zealand Naval Squadron, Captain Cosmo Graham, H.M.S. Diomede, Captain 0. Bevir, H.M.S. Leith, and Commander B. C. B. Brooke, H.M.S. Philomel. The commodore was accompanied by Paymaster Lieutenant-Com-mander J. K. Highton. Commander J. B. E. Hall, captain of H.M.S. Wellington, had already patd his official call in Wellington on the arrival of his ship. To mark the first official landing in Auckland of the commodore, a salute of 11 guns was fired by a military battery from the eastern reclamation as he stepped ashore at the Admiralty launch steps. Later in the morning. Colonel J. E. Duigan, officer commanding the Northern Command, Lieutenant-Colonel R. Miles and Major D. H. Donaldson, called at Government House. A call was also made by Squadron-Leader L. M. Isitt, officer commanding the Hobsonville Air Base.
