DR. KAGAWA'S VISIT
ADDRESSES AT WEEK-END LARGE AUDIENCES ATTEND Large audiences attended a series of addresses given by tho noted visiting Japanese religious leader, Dr. Toyohiko Kagawa, over the week-end. On Saturday night the Town Hall was well filletf f°r an address on "The Prohlem of the Pacific," given under the auspices of tho Young Men's Christian Association and the League of Nations Union.
Hundreds were turned away from the Town Hall yesterday afternoon, when Dr. Kagawa told the story of his life at a Youth Rally, arranged by the Y.M.C.A. and tho Christian Youth Movement. Archbishop Averill was in the chair, and the Rev. W. T. Blight and the Rev. Albert Grigg took part in the service. The Salvation Army Band gave a number of items and sacred solos were sung by Mr. Clinton Williams. Mr. Rex Goldsmith was pianist.
Yesterday morning Dr. Kagawa preached at St. David's Presbyterian Church, where the attendance was so large that an "overflow" congregation heard the sermon through loudspeakers installed in the church hall. In the evening Dr. Kagawa preached at Beresford Street Congregational Church, the service being broadcast. At the Baptist Tabernacle the Rev. W. Ogawa, who is accompanying Dr. Kagawa, was the preacher. He spoke on the effect of Christianity in freeing the minds of the Japanese from the pessimism and fatalism which Eastern religions tended to produce. Dr. Kagawa will leave this morning for Hamilton, whoro he will address a meeting of ministers at noon. Ho will later proceed to Rotorua.
