FIFTH SERIES OF MATCHES RICHMOND TO PLAY MARIST < CONTEST AT DEVONPORT The fifth series of matches in the senior championship of the Auckland Rugby League will be played to-morrow, when another interesting day's foot- < ball is anticipated. Two games are set ( down at Carlaw Park, the principal ( attraction being between Richmond, the leader in the championship, and < Marist, which holds second position. ' Marist has a hard task to lower the i champion's colours, but it has shown ■ improved form in recent matches. The • Marist forwards are a good set and are likely to make a good showing, but the Richmond rearguard, on form to * date, is the superior combination. ' { Under favourable conditions fast and exciting play should result. > Another good game is likely between Newton and Ponsonby, which will contest the curtain-raiser to the chief match. Both | teams throw the ball about well, and pos- ( session from the scrums should play a large ] part in the result. With reasonable opportunities the Ponsonby backs will prove ] dangerous, but the forwards may be overshadowed by the Newton vanguard. The other senior match to-morrow will be played at Devonport, where the local 6ide will meet : Mount Albert. This match is expected to provide North Shore enthusiasts with a good 1 exhibition. Lower grade competitions will be continued. Following are the teams:— ( DEVONPORT Reserve Grade.—Thompson. Archer, Holloway, Hamill, Tryson. Lynch, Webb, Thorpe, 1 Gyde, Maesey, Neighbour, Hill, Newton, Radonich, Williams, Doble. Catch two o'clock boat.
