NATIONAL FLOWER SHOW

NEXT YEAR'S FIXTURE AUCKLAND ARRANGEMENTS A meeting to consider the appointment of committees to undertake the organisation of the national flower show, which will take place in Auckland early next year, was held last night. The meeting was well attended, and Mr. E. Hickson, president of the Auckland Horticultural Society, presided. The chairman gave an outline of the history of national flower shows, and spoke of the negotiations that -had taken place concerning the change of dates to the end of February. He considered that if the co-operation of all those interested in horticulture in the city and province could be secured, it would be possible to make the show the largest of its kind ever held in Auckland. Every citizen could help to the extent of entering for the proposed competitions for the best-kept gardens and footpaths, which would, in turn, assist in cultivating a sense of civic pride. It was decided to take stops to have a Saturday included in the show dates, and to form a general committee of those present, with power to add to their number. Mr. N. Pierce was elected secretary. Several speakers expressed appreciation of the generosity of the Auckland Racing Club in giving permission for the use of its grounds at Ellerslie. The following committees were elected:—Schedule Committee: Messrs. E. Hickson, E. J. Hepwell, W. J. Rice, G. K. Gilliam, C. P. Worley and Mesdames E. Bostock and R. S. Whitley. Publicity Committee: Messrs. F. Penn t W. G. Stephens and R. W. Yates. Mr. H. L. Massey was appointed honorary architect.
