SAFE-BLOWING ATTEMPT
INTRUDERS UNSUCCESSFUL LEGAL OFFICE ENTERED An unsuccessful attempt made during the week-end to blow open a large safe in the city office of a , legal firm was discovered when the staff arrived yesterday morning. It is thought possible that the intruders gained entrance to the building through an unlocked win-" dow, and entered the suite of offices by means of a seldom-used door. There was nothing to indicate that they had forced their way either into the building or into the offices. When members of the staff reached the office, which is on the first floor of a five-storey building, they found that the padlock had been broken from the strong-room door. Inside the strongroom, lying on its side, was a large safe that had been moved from its usual position in the main office. The door of the safe had been damaged extensively by an explosion, but it had not opened. A locksmith was called later to remove the door. The safe contained various documents, but no money. The intruders did noj; interfere with a smaller safe, nor did they search the various desks.
