YACHT'S WORLD CRUISE
MR. DOUGLAS FAIRBANKS FILM STAR VISITS SUVA [from our own correspondent] SUVA, May 8 In the course of a leisurely worldCruise the motor-yacht Caroline, owned by a Mr. Johnson, of New York, arrived in Suva on Monday last. Accompanying Mr. and Mrs. Johnson on the yacht were Mr. Douglas Fairbanks, the well-known film star, and Lady Ashley. The yacht carries a staff of 29 officers and crew. Permission to board the yacht was refused to everybody except those bearing the written permission of the owner and it was stated that Mr. Fairbanks refused to give any interviews. However, it was learned that the party joined the yacht at St. Thomas, in the West Indies, travelling from Europe on the liner Europa. From St. Thomas the yacht sailed to Puerto Rico, San Juan, Nasau (Bahamas) and Miami. There the party was joined by several film stars, including Miss Ginger Rogers and Miss Benita Hume. The voyage was then continued to Jamaica, the Panama Canal, Cocos Island and the Marquesas Group, Bora Bora and Pago Pago. The other film stars left the boat at Tahiti, where the Caroline stayed for some time. From Suva the yacht will proceed to the Solomon Islands, Singapore, Japan and China, finally finishing the cruise at Southampton. The yacht is very luxuriously fitted, and is said to bo a most comfortable one to travel in. During their stay here the party have been engaged in sightseeing and golfing. Although in the South Sea Islands, where a certain amount of obscurity might have been expected, Douglas' Fairbanks was quickly recognised bv the Fijian and Indian youths, who, through the medium of the picture shows, are acquainted with all the best-known film people. On his visits to the town Mr. Fairbanks is frequently followed by a crowd of native and Indian youths, which gathers in volume and noise as time passes.
