RAILWAY CONCESSIONS
FARES FOR APPRENTICES The extension of railway concession fares to cover apprentices over the age of 21 years was the subject of a letter sent to tiie Railways Department by the New Zealand Manufacturers' Federation, a copy of which -was received at the monthly meeting of the general committee of the Auckland Manufacturers' Association yesterday. No reply has yet been received from the Railways Department. The Railways Department at present allows concession fares to all apprentices under the age of 21 years. The letter stated that recent changes in the regulations and agreements covering apprenticeship enabled boys to commence their apprenticeship later than was formerly the rule. A great many apprentices now begin at tho age of 17 or 18 and occasionally later bo that they are still in their apprenticeship beyond the age of 21. The federation asked that a corresponding modification be made ao as to remove the present age limit and to allow concession fares to all certified apprentices.
