CHARGES OF FRAUD
TAXI-DRIVERS - COMPLAINTS Four charges of obtaining credit by franc! from taxi-drivers were preferred against Philip Donald Mnrtinovich in the Supreme Court yesterday. The trial was conducted by Mr. Justice Heed. The offences were alleged to have taken place on December 20, January 7, February 6 and March 12, and the total sum involved was £3 0s 6d. Mr. Hall Skelton appeared for accused. Mr. R. Meredith, for the Crown, said that the accused engaged taxi-drivers and at the end of the journey he would just tell them that he was unable to pay. He irtade various promises of payment later which were not kept. Counsel read several statements containing admissiions by Martinovich relative to the ofl'ences with which he was charged. After Mr. Meredith had opened, tho hearing was adjourned until this morning.
