NEW ZEALAND BUTTER

THE HAWAIIAN MARKET GOOD DEMAND ESTABLISHED There is an encouraging market for New Zealand butter in Hawaii, according to Mr. N Nash, manager of the Hawaiian Pineapple Company, who arrived at Auckland by the Aorangi yesterday. Mr. Nash is a former New Zealander, who has been in business in Honolulu for the last 14 years. A duty of 14 cents a pound was imposed on New Zealand butter in Hawaii, Mr. Nash said but in spite of that it sold at 40 cents, approximately Is 8d a pound in the shops. It was advertised as coming from New Zealand and many people in Honolulu preferred it to any other variety. A recent order from the United States Government, to the effect that all meat supplies for tho forces in Hawaii should be purchased from the United States, had affected New Zealand's meat export trade with the islands. Conditions in Hawaii were improving steadily. Aided by a Government Quota scheme, the sugar industry had advanced rapidly, and over 1,000,000 tons of raw cane sugar were exported annually. Last year the export of pineapples totalled 176,000 000 tins, and a co-operative organisation was proving of great benefit to the industry.
