FIRE AT OPOTIKI

DWELLING DESTROYED OCCUPIER'S FACE SCORCHED [from our own correspondent] OPOTIKI, gunday A seven-roomed house in Waioeka Road, Opotiki, owned by Mr. F. Chapman, was completely destroyed by fire about three o'clock yesterday afternoon. Mr. Chapman is an inmate of the Opotiki Hospital and the house was occupied by Mr. A. Strickland. The fire was not noticed until it had extended to a room in the front of the house, and in opening a door in the passage Mr. Strickland was met by a wall of llame. His face and hair were badly scorched. The Opotiki fire brigade was in attendance, but as the house was outside the borough boundary there was no water supply and nothing could be done to save the building. The entire contents of the house were destroyed, including some valuable rowing trophies won by Mr. Chapman. A motor-car. which was in a garage near by, was saved. The house is insured in the South British office and the contents in the Sun office.
