BAY OF PLENTY LINE DEPUTATION AT WAIHI [BY TKILEGRAPH —own correspondent] TAU.RANG A, Thursday The Railways Board, comprising Sir James Gunson, acting-chairman, Messrs. E. Newman, D. Reese, G. W. Reid, members, and also Messrs. G. H. Mackley, general manager of railways, A. W. Wellsted, commercial manager, G. T. Wilson, district traffic manager, Auckland, H. W. Beasley, district engineer, Auckland, A. Hansen, railways afforestation officer, paid a visit of inspection to the Paeroa-Tanea-tua railway to-day. At the Waihi station this morning the board was waited upon by the Mayor, Mr. W. M. Wallnutt, and members of the Railway Protection League. Speaking for the deputation, Mr. Wallnutt drew attention to the railway subways at Nos. and 10 bridges on the main highway, which were regarded as a menace to motor traffic. Mr. 0. Bjerring referred to the unsatisfactory state of the holding yards for stock "at the Waihi station and urged the provision of new yards. Sir James Gunson, replying, said the board was concerned with the railways, not with highways, and suggested the Waihi 13orough Council should get into touch with the Ohinemuri County Council and the Main Highways Board on the subways question, with a view to having the necessary alterations made. As to the request for new holding yards, the Railways Department had decided that these should be provided. The board nrrived at Tauranga at mid-day, and was welcomed by the Mayor,' Mr. A F. T.mks, and representatives of the borough and county councils. The partv left for Taneatua early in the afternoon and returned the evening. The members will leave Tauranga to-morrow morning for I'rankton, where they will join the express for Wellington.
