UNLIGHTED CYCLES
COMPLAINTS AT ELLERSLIE POLICE TO BE APPROACHED Proposals to abate the danger from cyclists riding without lights at night were discussed by the Ellerslie Town Board last night. At previous meeting* members reported that numerous complaints had been received from residents. They alleged that a large number of cyclists persisted in riding without adequate lights after dark and were also using the footpaths as a cycle track. It was reported last night that the Ellerslie police had been requested to endeavour to check the practice, but without result. Members suggested that drastic steps should be taken to apprehend the offenders. The town clerk said that in the absence of any traffic inspector in Ellerslie the district was dependent upon police supervision. After a lengthy discussion it was decided to take up the matter with the police headquarters in Auckland.
