EXHIBITION OF WORK 'THE OPENING CEREMONY Bowls of golden calendulas and chrysanthemums and masses of fern made attractive decorations in the Kitchener Street hall last evening, when the otth annual exhibition of the Auckland Society of Arts was opened by Sir Joseph B.# G. Smith. There was much to interest onlookers as apart from the oils and water-colour paintings, there was also a display of handpainted fabrics, haud-loom weaving, silver work, sculpture, pottery, photographs, drawings, needlework, etchings, woodcuts, lino cuts, and lithographs. Incidental music by Miss K. O'Leary's Orchestra was most enjoyable. On arrival the guests were x-eceived by tho* president, Mr. C. Reginald 1' ord, and by Mrs. E. B. Gunson, who took the place of Mrs. Ford, who was absent owing to illness.
