CHARGE FOR PARK
FOOTBALL DIFFERENCE AUSTRALIAN LEAGUE TEAM DEMANDS OF AUCKLAND CONTROLLING BODVS REFUSAL Tbo proposed visit of an Australian team to Auckland this season was discussed by the New Zealand Rugby League last evening, when the terms submitted by the Auckland League foi the use of Carlaw Park were considered excessive. It was decided to ask the Auckland League for a reduction of charges and, should the request be refused, it is probable that the Australian matches will bo played on an outside ground. The chairman, Mr. C. A. Sneddon, said the matter was most, difficult, and it was apparent that if the present charges were insisted upou the playing of matches by the Australians at Carlaw Park could not possibly be considered. The visit of an Australian team this season was almost certain. He was not prepared to forward details of the charges at present asked for the use of Carlaw Park to the Australian authorities. Matches against overseas teams were essential, and he hoped that every effort would bo made to induce the Auckland League to reduce its charges. International matches should bo played at the park, as it was the home of the League code in Auckland. Mr. W. J. Davidson said the Auckland League had lost sight of the national aspcict of overseas visits. He considered that more lenient treatment should be given to the controlling body. Mr. R. Doble said the trustees of the Auckland League had obligations to the bank. The erection of the grandstand at the park had been costly. The chairman said it was possible a separate arrangement could be mad! with the trustees and the bank when Carlaw Park was required for the use of the New Zealand League.
