ELLERSLIE TRAINING

TRACKS HEAVY Al r TER RAIN SCHOOLING OF JUMPERS BLACK MARLIN AND GASCELLE BY ARCHER Several heavy showers fell while training operations were in progress at Ellerslio yesterday and there was not a great deal of- fast work. The tracks were soft and most of the horses were restricted to useful tasks ou the sand,. However, tliero. Mere a few gallops on the No. 3 grass and some interest was also provided by the schooling of the junipers. On tho grass Radnor (Wiggins), after running the first three in 4U 4-ss, covered six furlongs in 1.22 3 5 The half-brother to Kiiberis is showing improved condition and is shaping very satisfactorily in his work. Air Lassie (Bentley) completed a useful task by striding home the last three furlongs in -14 l-ss. She is carrying an improved appearance and evidently benefited considerably by the spell she had after racing at Te Aroha.

Teddy Boy (Taylor) and Solas (Bigham) placed four furlongs behind in Ms, the lust three in 40s. Teddy Boy's latest form has been moderate and it will be necessary for him to show improvement to reach the winning list. Solas is muscling up nicely and has made some progress during the past few weeks. Express (Gilchrist) was timed to run the last four of fivo furlongs iu 54 3-ss. She is in healthy condition and will be ready to rare at short notice. Cornerman (Gilchrist) began better than Znne Grey (Stone) and ltd him over four furlongs in 52 3-os. They worked very satis fnctorily for horses in their class, but they will require to find tie company weak to reach the winning list. t'arkliurut (Craddoek) was sent twice over the steeplechase fences on the flat and iuiuned cleanly. Pi>rkhurst, who bears a blight and muscular appearance, is being qualified as a hunter. Black Marliu (Craddoek) was schooled over two pony fences and two of the ordinary schooling hurdles, acquitting himself very satisfactorily. The Lucullus gelding has not been overtaxed 3ince joining It. S. Bugby's team, but he appears to be thriving. The Sun (Rne) gave (Sharkey) a lead over the pony hurdles. It is a pity that Tho Sun has turned roguish, because he is a fine juniper and stayer who would win races if he would only go generously. D'Artignan is just beginning his education as a jumper and he fenced very carefully. _ Arabesque (Biirgess) was sent over six hurdles and gave a good display, infusing plenty of dash into his jumping. United (Weir) followed him over the first two fences, nearly unseating his rider at the first, which he jumped very high mid awkwardlv. Gascelle (Craddoek) cleared a couple of hurdles cleanly and afterwards did useful work. The Gasbag gelding is becoming more solid in condition and may be a possibility for a minor jumping event when he is more seasoned. RICCARTON NOTES HORSES FOR WINGATU! ROYAL LIMOND'S PROSPECTS [by telegraph —own correspondent] CHRISTCHUTSCH, Thursday Imperial Spear and Importance were railed to Greymouth to-night to race at the West-land meeting. Hibberd, but a rider has yet to be secured for Manetho. Royal Liniond will also go south tomorrow. With D. O'Connor in the saddle he gave a«pleasing display over two rounds of country to-day. He did not have a great deal of pace on and hesitated slightly each time at, the sod .wall without, howover, showing any inclination to evade it. He will strike a track to suit him at Wingatui. Royal Limond will be accompanied by his stable-mate Doiran, who is to be returned to his Dunedin owner. A small figure was offered for him on the West Coast, but it was declined, and his owner intends to give him away for use as a lady's hack. Royal Amphora and Lady Lucas were companions in a round of hurdles to-day, the former giving a fast nnd clean display. Lady Lucas jumped reasonably well. Radiant Rose and High Speed again jumped two brush hurdles, , and Fleeting Glance went twice over the samo obstacles. Gay Ciest has been .in regular work since racing at Easter and is to fulfil his engagement at the Amberley meeting next week. His stable companion, Tout le Monde, has been turned out for an indefinite spell. The ranks of novice jumpers will soon be augmented by Lord Argosy Gold Dress, in P, McGrath's stable. Both have been given a lot of road work in the past few months and are now to enter upon a serious preparation for hurdle racing. The weather for the Reefton fixture on Wednesday was atrocious. Heavy rain fell practically throughout the programme ana parts of the track were unrier water toward the close of the afternooyi.
