WINTER SHOW

WAIKATO PREPARATIONS VARIETY OF EXHIBITS [from our own correspondent] HAMILTON. Thursday No effort is being spared to make the forthcoming Waiknto Winter Show surpass its predecessors in variety ot exhibits and novel entertainment. Year by vcar this industrial and agricultural exhibition has grown in public favour, until it is now regarded as one of the major show fixtures of the Dominion. Of special interest to farmers are the classes for root crops, There is always a good display in this division, and a number of valuable trophies are made available to competitors. Juvenile gardeners are catered for by the children's agricultural and horticultural section. ""in order to encourage pig-raising on sound lines a special pork and bacon carcase competition has been organised. It is considered that by this means dairy farmers are made to realise the importance of breeding only the best and most suitable types of porkers and baconers. The competition enables farmers to compare notes with both live and dead pigs before them. The home-craft of farmers' wives is displayed in the Wornens' Institute courts. This has grown to be a strong section of the show and the competition is now divided into two classes according to the membership of the institutes. There aro separate sections for needlework, home industries, dancing, elocution, art, photography and vocal and instrumental music. In the classes for model engineering and model aeroplanes, lovers of these hobbies will find much to interest them. The Winter Show will be opened on May 28 by the Governor-General, Viscount Galway, and will continue until Juno 3.
