WOMAN GOLFER
MISS WETHERED'S CONTRACT PAYMENT AT lis A STROKE [from our own correspondent] LONDON, April 13 The famous English woman golf champion, Miss Joyce Wethered, who recently decided to become a professional, will leave for America, next month to play a series of professional matches, for which she will be paid at the rate of about lis a stroke. Sho will receive a minimum of £I2OO for her two and a-lialf months' tour. "I shall play three or four 18-hole matches a week for eight to ten weeks." said Miss Wethered. "For each match 1 shall receive £40." This is equivalent to approximately £2 4s a hole, and about lis a stroke. In addition, she will receive two-fifths of the gate receipts. - \ > Miss Wethered has been manageress of a sports department in a London store for some time. She was born on November 17, 1901, and won the ladies' open championship in 1922, 1924, 1925 and 1929. She was runnerup in 1921 and a semi-finalist in 1923. She won the English ladies' championship for five years and was runner-up in the French championship in 1921. M iss Wethered represented England in international matches on several occasions and also Great Britain against Franco in 1931 and against United States in 1932.
