MOTORIST IMPRISONED
GUILTY OF NEGLIGENCE CHRISTCHURCH PROSECUTION []!Y TELEGRAPH —I'RESS ASSOCIATION'] CHRISTCHURCH, Thursday Tn the Supreme Court to-day Samuel Donald Halliday was convicted oil a charge of negligently driving a motorcar so as to cause bodily harm. He was sentenced to 12 months' imprisonment and disqualified from obtaining a driver's licence for three years. Counsel for accused said that previously Halliday had been charged with being intoxicated while in charge of a car in the same set of circumstances as gave rise to the present prosecution. The magistrate had sentenced him to imprisonment for two months. Counsel submitted that accused's only criminality was intoxication while in charge of a car, and for that he had paid a substantial penalty. In reply to Mr. Justice Johnston the Crown Prosecutor said the girl injured in tho accident was in hospital for some time. His Honor said there were no mitigating circumstances.
