Mrs. E. G. Hallett, of Mission Bay, will leave by the Wanganella to-mor-row for Sydney en route to England.

Mrs. Mailer, Melbourne, Mrs. H. R. Best, Christchurch, and Miss M. Rackham, London, are at the Hotel Cargen.

Mrs. A. C. Coffey and Miss E. Coffey, Manukau Road, Epsom, will leave by the Wanganella to-morrow for an extended tour of Australia.

Mrs. G. Dransfield and Miss May Dransfield. Victoria Avenue, Remuera, will leave next week to spend a holiday at the Franz Josef Glacier.

At a meeting of the Brookby branch of the Women's Division of the Farmers' Union, a one-act play tvas presented by five of the members. A competition was won by Mrs. Snowden. Hostesses were Mesdames Light and Moody.

A presentation of a New Zealand rug, on behalf of the members of the Roseburv Tennis Club, was made at a social gathering in the Buffalo Hall at Birkenhead, to Mr. and Mrs. C. R. McKinstrv, who are leaving the district to live in Taranaki.

Members of the Enterprise Club met this week. Part of the programme arranged for the evening comprised French conversation and part-singing in French, and a lecture on " The Stuarts " was given by Miss N. L. Dash. A report was given of the progress made with the Oxford scheme for the permanent alleviation of distress among worthy men and women.

There was a large attendance at a social and dance of the Higher Thought Centre, conducted by Mr. and Mrs. Dickens on Tuesday night. Songs by Mrs. Cooper and elocutionary items by Miss A. Heron were enjoyed, and a novel contest was won by Mr. Preston, Mrs. Hoy winning a ring competition. Supper was provided by the hostesses, Mesdames Deverick, Green and Hubbert. The orchestra comprised Mrs. Goldie and Messrs. Barrington and Preston. The first annual meeting of the executive committee of the Ponsonby United Band of Hope Society, was held in St. John's Methodist Church vestry on Tuesday evening. Five Ponsonby churches were represented. The election of officers was as follows: —President, Rev. J. D. Jensen; vice-presidents Miss Kitt. and Miss Whisker; secretary, Mr. H. Moore; treasurer, Mr. W. Eceles. A programme committee of eleven was convened by Mrs. Tasker-Brown. General meetings are to be held monthly at the various Sunday School halls concerned. A meeting of the Avondale Women s Club was held in the Blockhouse Bay Hall on Tuesday afternoon. The president, Miss Newton, presided. Sympathy was expressed to Mrs. Berry Riley and Mrs. Myers in their recent bereavement. Literature from the League of Nations Union was distributed. An address by Miss E. Campbell entitled " A Trip Through Palestine," was given, and objects of interest were shown. Miss Campbell was accorded a hearty vote of thanks. Two songs by Miss Rita Thomas were enjoyed. Tea. served under the direction of Mrs. Walker, concluded the afternoon.
