.DOMINION CONTESTS / HANDICAP SINGLES DECIDED MRS. BURRETT SUCCESSFUL t - .. In spite of heavy rain the annual Dominion croquet championship tournament was continued yesterday, when several games were decided, but some were not finalised. The final of Z section, handicap singles, was won by Mrs. Burrett, Mrs. Sargisson being runner-up-. The .final of the open championship doubles will be played to-day between Mesdames Clark and Tingey and Miss Skeet and Ward-Petley. In the open championship singles, Mrs. Baker, Auckland, beat Captain Hartnell, present holder of the Dominion title, 26 —18 and 26 —6. Mrs. Thomson, Auckland champion, was defeated by Mrs. Caldow and Mrs. E. Bassett in the ladies' championship singles. The final stages of the championships are now being reached, titles yet to be decided being the open championship singles, ladies' championship singles and handicap doubles. The final of the level singles for thp Whittaker Cup between Mrs. Morgan, Manawatu, and Mrs. J. Clqyk, Auckland, was commenced yesterday, each player winning a game. A FINE RECOVERY INTERESTING DOUBLES MATCH Mrs. Keatley made & fine recovery in the match- with Mrs. Schubert. At the commencement of the game Mrs. Schubert made a break 11 hoops and had both her clips on rover when Miss Keatley had only scored eight points. At this stage Miss Keatley took control after her opponent had failed .at rover. Making a break with tha forward ball she followed the turn with a break of eight, finishing a hard-fought game, 20—22. . Mrs. Thompson had few chances * against Mrs, Caldow, who made two substantial breaks and. finished. 26—6. A most interesting game to onlookers resulted in the meeting of Mrs. Tingey and Mrs. Hodge and Stratton and M*s. Watts. The former pair established a* good lead before' their opponents made any substantial headway. Gradually Stratton and his partner succeeded in getting the clips all square, but from then on the scoring was even until all four clips were on rover. Eventually Mrs. Hodge and Mrs, Tingey gained control and won 2(5—22. , In-and-out play resulted at the start of the game between Miss Skeet and . Mrs. Healey. Miss Skeet got to the penultimate and ,Mr*. Healey having th» lift got in a long shot and made a break to 4 oack.
