CARNIVAL IN SYDNEY CHARLTON WINS 880 YARDS SYDNEY, Feb. 27 A further result at the State swimming championships was:— 880 yds, Championship.—Charlton, 1 ; Ryan, 2; Taris, 3. This was a thrilling race, which soon became a contest between Taris, Ryan and Charlton, with the other two competitors well behind.
In the first 440vds, Ryan and Taris took turns in leading by a shade, with Charlton never more than a couple of yards behind. Charlton was slightly in front of Ryan at 660 yds, H'itli Taris 3vds away. Charlton then improved his lead slightly, Taris dropping .ten yards behind.
Charlton and Ryan fought strenuously, the former winning by half a yard. Taris was 15 yards behind. Tho Frenchman was by no means at his best. Times: Charlton, 10m 375; Ryan, 10m 37 2-ss.
