DEATH FROM EXHAUSTION

UNKNOWN MAN'S FATE AUSTRALIAN INLAND TRAGEDY A tragedy of the Australian inland at Newcastle Waters is reported from Darwin. The body o:f an unknown trav- * eller was found by two lubras on the station of Air. P. Ambrose, Banka Banba, on January 28. The finding was reported by Constable Edwards, of Newcastle Waters, who was guided to the spot by one of the lubras. He found the body on the bank of a creek about two miles from Banka Banka, and about two miles from the overland telegraph road, which travellers across Australia invariably fellow. Some distance from the body was a military boot and a little farther away was a coat._ The man was aged about 45 years, of thin build, and 6ft. tall, with hair greying at the temples. He had been at "Helen Springs station until January 6—about 30 miles from Banka Banka. He had received hospitality at Helen Springs, and left there with a quantity of food. He had no swag, and was carrying only a white flour-bag. On January 7 he met the son of the manager of Helen Springs. He had tea and breakfast. All night he was muttering deliriously. Next morning he left the camp, refusing any water. It is believed that he died from exhaustion. The tragedy occurred on the edge of the plain that the man had crossed. The creek near by had flooded recently and some of the deceased's belongings were washed away.
