CAR OVERLOADED
PASSENGERS FOR PICTURES PROSECUTION OF DRIVER A service-car driver, Frederick Woodcock, who overloaded his car in bringing passengers from Clevedon to the pictures at Papakura on tho evening of Boxing Day, was fined £2 10s and costs in the Papakura Police Court j'esterday. His wife, Lily Woodcock, as owner of the vehicle, was fined 10s and costs, 10s. Evidence was given by Frederick Jones, traffic inspector, that the car was licensed to carry eight persons. There were 16 in it when it arrived at Papakura. In order to make room, they weVe holding tho door open. Defendant had been previously warned. For defendant, Mr. McDonald explained that about 50 people wished to travel from Clevedon to tho pictures that evening. Defendant too]k one load and engaged a taxi, which took two loads. Ho sent a message for the taxi to make a • third trip, but, unfortunately,, the message was not delivered.
When defendant returned to Clevedon for his second load, continued counsel, there were still a large number of people waiting, including one family of five persons who had been waiting since his first trip.
