MORTGAGE LEGISLATION
NO, FURTHER CONFERENCE STATEMENT BY MINISTER [BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION"] WELLINGTON, Friday i The Minister of Finance, the Rt. Hon. J. G. Coates, stated to-day that he could not see his way clear to hold a further conference with the special committee set up by the Associated Chambers of Commerce.
Mr. Coates said he had already heard and noted the representations of business men in the various centres and had received helpful advice from many people who were anxious to assist the Government in its efforts to stabilise the mortgage position and help farmers in their serious plight. He appreciated the manner in which many business and commercial men had placed their experience at his disposal.
The session was less than a week off and it would be impossible to hear representations from sections of the community who had already placed their views before him and before the public.
