NEW DEVELOPMENT IN NORTH A COMPANY'S PROPOSALS ' [by telegraph—OWN comiiespondent] WHANGAREI, Friday The opinion that a lai ge fiumber of unemployed men could be profitably placed on the gumfields in North Auckland as a result of recjnt successful chemical research work was expressed to-day by Mr. P. H. Bessley, of Coromandel, at a complimentary luncheon tendered to Mr. A. J. Murdoch, M.P. for Marsden, by local boly representatives; '
Mr. Beasley said a i sompany had already ' been. formed to erect z. plant in Whangarei at a cort, of between £30,000 and £40,000. Tie great quantity of gum which it tvas estimated still remained in North Auckland presented great possibilities of development. Chemical analysis had disclosed that lacquers, paint and. tluco could be manufactured from ,evei the poorest swamp guiii, for which uj> to now there had been no markets
The company, which bad a capital of £60,000, hoped to obu.m assistance from the .Unemployment Board toward the erection of the plant, .continued Mr. Beasley. The successful establishment of the industry in Whanunrei would be a great advantage to tha district.
