REMARKABLY HIGH TIDE
PART OF NELSON FLOODED RISE OF OVER FIFTEEN FEET Nelson experienced the highest tide for many years on Wednesday, when the unusual spectacle was witnessed of sea water covering parts of several streets in the lower portion of the city. The lower portions of the Railway Department property were covered with more than two feet of water and the yards of several properties fronting Vanguard t Street were completely flooded. At Port Nelson, at full tide, soon after mid-day, a rise of 15ft. 3in. was registered, the water reaching the stringers under the wharf. The steamer Rotorua was high alongside the wharf and towered over the sheds. However, the sea was perfectly calm and there was an absence of wind.
