LIQUOR PROSECUTIONS

CASES AT MORRINSVILLE ENDORSEMENT OF A LICENCE [by telegraph—own correspondent] MORRINSVILLE, Friday Several licensing prosecutions were heard before Mr. J. H. Luxford, S.M., in the Magistrate's Court at Morrinsville to-day. James Carson, licensee of the Morrinsville Hotel, pleaded guilty to two charges of supplying liquor to natives and to two charges of selling liquor during prohibited hours. Defendant admitted supplying a threes-gallon keg of beer to Maoris on a Sunday, and, later the same day, supplying them with a five-gallon keg. Inspector Lopdell, of Hamilton, pressed for an endorsement of the license. Defendant was convicted and fined £1 add costs on each of the charges of supplying liquor to natives. On the first charge of selling liquor he was fined £5 and costs, and on the second he was fined £lO and costs, the convictions being endorsed on the licence. J. W. Newton, B. Stevenson, George Laird and J. Dike pleaded guilty to being on licensed premises at a time when such premises should be closed. They were each fined 10s and costs.

David Jonqs, of Morrinsville, carrier, pleaded guilty to a charge of supplying liquor to natives. Ho was fined £1 and costs.

A similar charge against A. Howarth, who was alleged to have supplied beer to natives at the conclusion of a harvesting contract, was dismissed as being trivial.
