CATHOLIC TEACHERS

ANNUAL CONFERENCE ENDS AUCKLAND PRESIDENT CHOSEN [BV TELEGRAPH —PIIESS ASSOCIATION] DUNEDIN, Friday The annual conference- of the Catholic Teachers' Association, which opened on Tuesday morning, concluded yesterday. The conference passed a resolution expressing regret at the death of Archbishop Redwood, and it was resolved to forward a message of congratulation to Archbishop O'Shea on his assumption of office as Archbishop of Wellington and Metroplitan of New Zealand.

A resolution was also carried regretting the impending departure of His Excellency Lord Bledisloe, and thanking him for his consistently friendly interest in the Roman Catholic schools of the Dominion.

It was further resolved: "That this conference of Catholic teachers, aware of the unwholesome nature of many of our films', even for adults, views with alarm the frequency with which children attend these same pictures. While there is all the difference in the world between one picture and another in regard to such harmful influence, it seems that many children are allowed to go indiscriminately to whatever pictures they themselves fancy. This con-f ference.therefore considers that besides the very grave duty that parents have in seeing that their children go only to good pictures, teachers also have the duty of trying to educate the conscience of the child itself to greater delicacy on this vital matter." The election of officers resulted as follows:—President, The Rev. Brother Tarcisius, (Sacred Heart College, Auckland); vice-presidents, the Revs. Father Terry (Auckland), Father A. Cullen (St. Patrick's College, Wellington), Father Burger (St. Bede's College, Christfhurch), Brother Benignus (provincial, Marist Brothers), and Brother M. M. O'Connor (St. Kevin's College, Oamaru).
