WOMEN'S DIVISION

Reports of branch meetings of the Women's Division of the Farmers' Union are as follows*— • Clevedon.—Arrangements were made at a recent meeting for a picnic to be held this month. It was reported that the exchange table had been very successful throughout the year. Mrs. Noel Adams presided.Karaka.—Arrangements were finalised for a children's fancy-dress dance. Surprise packets donated by members of the committee were sold, the proceeds being in aid of the housekeeping fund. Special prizes for exhibits were presented to Mrs. Lewis and Mrs. G. A. Wood. The roll call, " Suggestions for the improvement of the branch meetings,", brought forward many useful ideas. Miss Doris Charles played a pianoforte solo and members joined in community singing. A motor-car competition was - won by Miss Costar. The competitions resulted as follows: Collection of geraniums: Mrs. Bryant, 1; Mrs. Costar, sen., 2. Prettiest Christinas gift: Mrs. Bryant, 1; Mrs. D. Wood, 2. Mrs. Higham presided and the hostesses were Mesdames D. Stobie, G. A. Wood, Costar, sen., and Miss Costar. Pukekawa:—Mrs. K. D. Orr presided, but owing to the busy season the attendance was not as large as usual. Branch business occupied most of the time of the meeting. Arrangements were made for the annual picnic to bo held at Mr. D. Hunt's farm. During the afternoon the babies of the branch were presented with soft toys made by the junior branch members. Hostess s were Mesdames Brewster, Mason, M. G. and K. D. Orr. Hoteo North. Officers for this newly-formed branch were elected as follows:—President, Mrs. G. Merton; vice-presidents, Mrs. Cleasby and Mrs. Harding; honorary secretary and treasurer, Mrs. Stevenson; members of committee, Mrs. Keith and Mrs. Levet. At the meeting Mrs. R. Osbaldiston gave an address on the aimß and" objects of the organisation. Mrs. M. Buckton spoke about the exchange table and Mrs. Scurah on the social activities.
