WEST INDIES TEST MATCH

POOR SCORES ON WET WICKET BARBADOS, Jan.' 9 In the test cricket match between .England and West Indies, there was no play before tea to-day owing to rain. Hylton, the West Indies fast bowler made the ball jump, dismissing Hammond with his second ball. Holmes made a weak stroke to the next ball and was neatly caught.

Though England was still 21 behind Wyatt immediately declared after seven minutes' batting, being eager to get his bowlers to work on the tricky wicket. G. Grant, the West Indies captain, changed his batting order, hoping the wicket would improve. Smith dismissed the opening batsmen, 11. Grant and Martindale, with only four runs showing, all extras. Smith next bowled Achong with a full toss, the score being unchanged. Hylton and Christiani batted for 25 minutes without scoring, doggedly coping with a " kicking " ball, and determined to keep their wickets up as runs then did not matter. Owing to the bad light stumps were drawn early. Details of the scores are: — WEST INDIES First innings I° 2 ENGLAND—First Innings Wyatt, c R. Grant, b' Martindale. . 8 Hammond, c R.
