STRIKE OF MINERS

KALGOORLIE GOLDFI ELD LONG STRUGGLE POSSIBLE PERTH, Jan. 10 After a meeting of the Miners' Union had been held at Kalgoorlie in connection with the strike of 6000 Boulder City miners, the secretary handed to the Chamber of Mines, a letter stating that the men would work only 44 hours a week.

This will close the door to negotiations, and the union leaders are now preparing for a protracted stoppage.

The strike concerns all the mines on the Golden Mile at Boulder City, the dispute being due to the refusal of the men to work an 88-hour fortnight, consisting of 40 hours spread over five days, and 48 hours in the following week, which is provided for under the new award. x
