UNEMPLOYED RELIEF
PUBLIC WORKS SCHEMES FAILURE IN BRITAIN GENEVA. Jan. 8 The League of Nations lias published the result of a questionnaire which was addressed to various nations on the subject of relief works. The -British Government states that public works are part of the normal activities of the State and local authorities, but an experiment in public works on a large scale as a method dealing with unemployment has been tried and has failed. The Government adds that it doefi not intend to repeat the experiment.
