Provision was made to meet the whole of the expenses before the arrival of the visitors with the result that the gate receipts represent net profit. Approximately £BOO was taken at the gates for the two test matches, and it is expected that the third test at Melbourne will swell the total to £IOOO, which will be set aside to send an Australian team to England.

MATCH AT CANBERRA MAGPIES AS BARRACkERS MUCH AMUSEMENT CAUSED (Received January 10. 12.5 a.m.) CxVNBERRA. Jan. 9 The English women cricketers played a one day match against Canberra girls to-day. Two magpies were the keenest barrackers for the local players, who batted first. The birds warbled a merry tune and with each change of bowling wandered from one wicket to the other causing general amusement. Canberra in the first innings had scored 72 when a thunderstorm stopped play.
