Fourteen started, including Prince Pombal. Won by a head. Time, 1m 21s, equalling the course record. The Dunedin Jockey Club has fixed the stakes for its February meeting at £3205, an increase of £BO compared with last year. The principal event, tho Dunccnn Cup, is worth £OOO, an increase of £SO.

The jumpers Verden and Billy Boy are again to be trained for a period at Irentham by R W. Lewis, who will tako them south at the end of the week. Verden is to contest the high-weight events at the Wellington Racing Club's Summer Meeting and will again be ridden by I'. Thompson, who piloted him to victory at Ellerslie. The horses are expected to return to Ellerstie for the autumn meeting.

After a spoil extending over several months. Jewelled Girdle has again been taken in bund by J. E. Thorpe. Jewelled Girdle is a five-year-old brown gelding by Kilbroney from Loloma and lias had very little racing. He was just coming to form earlv in the Reason when he developed Roreness and it was deemed advisable to give him a resit. He is a. much better galToper than he has revealed in public.

An investor who intended to put £1 each way on No. 11 in a race at Caulfield, Melbourne, last week discovered when ho left lbs totalizator window that the tickets were issued for No. 16. The death of Kennaquhair. who ran second to Niglit Watch in the Melbourne Cup in 1918, and won the Sydney Cup in 1920. occurred recently in New South Wales. For some years Kennaquhair had been at the stud and was fairly successful as n sire. One of his jumpers to do well was Kenko. Kennaquhair created an Australian and New Zealand record for two miles when he won the Sydney Cup in 3.22}. but the record is now held by Palaniua, winner of the 1933 New Zealand Cup in 3.22 1-5.
