FREEDOM
Sir, —An article in your issue of Friday on the important question of adequate facilities for the interior of the North Island concludes with the remark, " Doubts were expressed whether the Transport Co-or-dination Board would be willing to allow more frequent services- between Taupo and outside districts." What are wo coming to! Why should tho people of Taupo and those willing to provide transport facilities go hat in hand to this board? What has become of the British boast of freedom of the King's highway? It would appear that the only purposes which these Transport Boards serve are (1), To bolster up artificially the incompetent management of our railways. (2), To provide patronage to the Government and comfortable billets for political hangers-on and fees and expenses for lawyers and witnesses. (3), Generally to increase expense and diminish convenience to the travelling public. E. Earle Vailk.
