DANGEROUS DRIVING
COURT IMPOSES FINE
SEQUEL TO CAPSIZE OF VAN
A charge of dangerous driving was preferred against Alfred Oliver Ronalds, of Rotorua, in the Otahuhu Police Court yesterday, before Messrs. R. B. Todd and C. R. Petrie, J.P.'s. Sergeant J. Cahill said a motorist was driving south on the main road at Papatoetoe about 6 p.m. on November 13. Ho signalled his intention to make a right-hand turn into Kolmar Road when observing two other vehicles behind him. As the motorist . commenced his turn defendant's motorvan came from behind and endeavoured to pass the leading cars. The 'van struck a traffic dome and capsized, rolling over twice before landing on the footpath. Defendant's wife was injured and admitted to hospital. Constable Maloney had measured wheel skid-marks over a distance of 63ft. It had been estimated that defendant's speed was about 35 miles an hour, said Sergeant Cahill. It was only the precautions of the first car driver than had prevented a serious accident. It was a dangerous practice to overtake and pass vehicles at intersections. The Court entered a conviction and fined-defendant £2, and 10s costs.
